An apple a day!
We’re big fans of eating seasonally at Creamline, and autumn is the season of apples!
One of the most common and popular fruits, apples are much more than an easy snack. A medium apple contains 14% of an adult’s recommended daily intake of vitamin C. Research has also indicated that apples may offer a number of health benefits, including lowering cholesterol and lowering the risk of long-term illnesses.
Whilst apples can be enjoyed as they are, we never turn down the chance to get baking! So, we’re sharing a recipe for one of our favourite treats: toffee apples.
With this simple recipe, you can have delicious toffee apples ready in four easy steps – they’re great fun to make with the little ones and perfect for Halloween!
Ingredients
6 eating apples – you can find fresh apples, handpicked by local greengrocers here.
300g demerara sugar
3 tbsp golden syrup
25g salted butter
1½ tsp cider vinegar
Lolly sticks or skewers
Method
1) Clean the apples, push a lolly stick into the top of each and set aside.
2) Gently dissolve the sugar, syrup and butter in a saucepan with 75ml water, then stir through the vinegar.
3) Turn up the heat and boil until the mixture reaches 140C, when it will have reached the toffee stage.
4) Carefully dip the apples into the hot toffee and swirl to coat. If the pan is too shallow use a spoon to coat. Place on a board lined with baking paper to set and serve.
