Happy birthday, Creamline! Celebrating 75 years of supporting local
This
week marks an incredibly special date in Creamline’s history, as we celebrate
75 years since we began to support our local Manchester communities with milk
deliveries.
On
21 June 1945, Industrial Milk Supplies Limited (as Creamline was known then) was
born, founded by Peter Roe to supply businesses in Trafford Park and Worsley
with milk. We’ve certainly seen a lot of early Manchester mornings since then!
Recognising
the potential in the growing doorstep delivery market, Peter began canvassing
furiously and for many years Creamline was a successful doorstep delivery
company. In 1994 Peter decided to sell the business to Anthony Swallow, who saw
it as a great opportunity to get back into a local service he was passionate
about, and to involve the next generation. Anthony is now chairman of Creamline
Dairies, and his son Chris Swallow and son-in-law Rob Purvis, run the business
you see today, as joint Managing Directors.
It’s
incredible to think that we started our journey by horse and cart three years
before the first modern computer was designed and built here in Manchester, and
some 75 years later our customers can now order their milk and a vast range of other
Daily Essentials and Best of Local produce at the click of a button or tap of a
finger!
From
the first episode of Coronation Street, to the birth of Factory Records, the opening
of the infamous Hacienda, launch of the iconic Metrolink and hosting of the
Commonwealth Games, we’ve been there for so many of Manchester’s moments over the
decades.
Although
much has changed since we delivered our first pint of milk, one thing has
remained the same: our Manchester communities still mean the world to us.
To
all our customers, colleagues, suppliers and producers: thank you for being
part of our story so far. We can’t wait to find out what the next 75 years
brings!
