Batch cooking made easy

We all know how stressful and time-consuming cooking can be. Batch cooking is a great way to make sure you’ve always got something delicious and nutritious ready for when you might need it. Whether you’re planning for a busy week or simply want to take the hassle out of mealtimes, we’ve prepared some easy batch-cooking ideas for breakfast, lunch, and tea to help you save time and cut costs

Breakfast

We all know how hectic mornings can be, but a little preparation can go a long way and help you start the day off right with a nutritious breakfast.

Overnight oats:

Mix together oats, milk (or a plant-based alternative like Oato), and your favourite toppings, such as berries, nuts and honey. Store in jars or airtight containers in the fridge for up to five days. Oats are packed with slow-release energy, meaning you can stay full for longer and avoid snacking throughout the day!

Breakfast hash:
Dice potatoes, peppers, and onions, then fry in a pan until golden and tender. Add cooked sausage or bacon, then season with spices like paprika or garlic powder. Store in the fridge, then reheat in the morning for a filling breakfast. It’s perfect topped with a fried egg if you have the time.

Lunch

It can be hard to find quick and easy lunches when you’re in a rush. Whether you're working from home or need something easy to take with you, batch-cooked lunches can help you take the stress out of your day.

Soup in bulk:

A hearty soup made with fresh vegetables, lentils, or beans is a warming and nutritious choice. Make a big pot and portion it into containers for the week. Check out our pea and ham soup recipe for some inspiration.

Pasta salad:

Cook up a large batch of pasta and mix it with roasted vegetables, a simple dressing, and some cheese or protein. It keeps well in the fridge and makes for an easy, satisfying lunch.

Homemade wrap fillings:

Pre-make fillings like chicken and avocado, hummus and roasted veg, or cheese and pickle. Store them in airtight containers and assemble wraps fresh each day for a stress-free lunch.

Tea

For a lot of us, the last thing we want to do after a long day at work is spend hours cooking and cleaning up! Having a batch-cooked tea ready to go means you can enjoy a home-cooked meal with minimal effort and make the most of your evenings.

Slow cooker stews & casseroles:

Throw fresh local ingredients like meat, potatoes, and vegetables into a slow cooker, cover with stock and let it simmer for a tender, flavourful dish. Check out our delicious beef, vegetable and sweet potato hotpot for some inspiration. Freeze in portions for later and reheat for a stress-free warming meal.

Shepherd’s pie or cottage pie:

A classic family favourite that can be made in bulk and frozen. It’s great with high-quality mince from Little Pigs Didsbury, our friendly family-run butchers. Simply reheat in the oven for a comforting and hearty meal.

Homemade curries:

Batch-cook a big pot of curry using fresh spices and vegetables, then portion it up with rice for a quick and delicious dinner. Why not try out our Thai curry recipe for some ideas?
