Five easy switches to start 2019 right
Happy New Year! If you’ve been
scribbling down New Year’s Resolutions this week, chances are that a healthier
diet may appear on your list after the indulgence of the festive period. For
those short on time though, a total shake-up of your meals may seem like a
daunting task!
With this in mind, we’ve put
together some quick, easy tips that you can use to switch your usual
ingredients for tastier, healthier ones, helping kick off the New Year the
right way!
Swap your white rice for…
Although white rice is quick and
easy to make, there are healthier options out there. Try cauliflower rice for a
delicious, nutritious alternative – it couldn’t be easier to whip up with a
food processor or blender.
Swap your potato for…
One of the easiest switches you can
make, as there are so many alternatives out there! For mash, try carrot or
swede, or go for a 50/50 mix. For jacket potatoes, try sweet potato instead,
and keep the skin on for extra fibre!
Swap your salad dressing for…
Olive oil! Processed salad
dressings can contain lots of additives, whereas olive oil is rich in healthy
fats. Lightly dress salads along with some balsamic vinegar for a healthy
twist!
Swap your boxed porridge oats for…
Plain oats – this helps avoid the
potential added salt and sugar of pre-packaged versions. You can add plenty of
delicious toppings such as fruit or honey – we’ve got loads of recipe ideas here.
Swap your carbs for…
Oily fish, like salmon and tuna. The
NHS
recommends that we eat at least 2 portions of fish a week, including
one of oily fish. These are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which studies
have suggested can help keep your heart healthy. Have a browse of our fishmonger
range here, all expertly sourced by our local fishmonger.
