Romantic meal ideas for Valentine’s Day

Don’t fancy the stress of going out this Valentine’s Day? Why not bring date night home! If you’re looking to impress your better half, try cooking something special using premium ingredients from our Best of Local range - we promise you’ll fall in love with these tasty recipe ideas!

Sirloin steak with red wine sauce

This deliciously indulgent date night meal is a sure-fire way to make Valentine’s Day unforgettable. First, season two of our premium sirloin steaks with salt and pepper, then sear them in a hot pan with a splash of olive oil and a knob of butter for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove and let them rest.

In the same pan, gently fry a finely chopped shallot until soft, then deglaze with a glass of full-bodied red wine, scraping up any brown bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. Add 200ml of beef stock and simmer until reduced, then swirl in a tablespoon of butter for a glossy finish. Serve the steaks with a generous helping of the rich red wine sauce, alongside creamy mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus for a rich, romantic dinner.

Prawn pasta

This tasty prawn pasta makes the perfect romantic meal. Ready in just fifteen minutes, it’s perfect for a night of quality time together. Why not put some music on and enjoy cooking this together with your loved one? Simply boil 200g of your favourite pasta, being sure to reserve ½ cup of pasta water. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a pan and fry three minced garlic cloves with a pinch of chilli flakes until fragrant.

Add 350g of prawns, cooking until pink, then deglaze with ½ cup of white wine. Stir in 150ml of heavy cream, the zest and juice of half a lemon, and a handful of chopped parsley. Toss in the drained pasta, adding reserved water if needed for silkiness.

Finish with grated Parmesan and serve with a glass of chilled white wine for a romantic dinner for two.

Roasted tomato & pepper soup

Have a stress-free night with your partner this year with this soup-er easy dinner! Simply add a red pepper, onion, a few cloves of garlic, 400g of tomatoes and a tin of butter beans to a roasting tray, cover in olive oil and roast in the oven for roughly 30 minutes. Once roasted, add to a large pot, cover with chicken or vegetable stock, blend to your preferred consistency and season to taste.

Simmer on a low heat until needed, giving you plenty of time to set up the dining table with candles or flowers and open a bottle of wine (or two...).

When you’re ready to serve, add a splash of double cream for a silky texture and shredded basil for a hit of freshness. Serve with plenty of crusty bread from Thatchers Bakery in Stockport. It’s that easy!
